cottage extension:midlothian

This project involves the extension of an existing miners cottage in Midlothian. The clients wanted to increase the size of their current extension to add additional living and bedroom space. Being a large extension the massing and materials had to be carefully considered on order to be sympathetic to the existing cottage and not cause any undue overshadowing to the neighbouring property. The solution reached created a single storey, top-lit kitchen extension and a double storey living and bedroom addition. the living space is stepped down to create a better connection with the garden whilst at the same time creating improved bedroom space above.
